District 13 DCM Report

Saturday January 13th

17 out of 21 DCM in attendance

District Chairs-Please utilize the Area 24 chairs experience; the District chairs represent the Area chairs committee. The Area 24 chair will call on you if help is needed in your district.

Introduce box 549, and let the District chairs know the GSO chair reports are in there for sharing ideas in chair positions around the world.

“AA monies should be used to carry the AA message if your group is using funds for any other purpose please review”

Listen to your treasurer’s report you should not have a large sum of money in an AA treasury.

I was happy to report District 13 has 32 groups and 40% participate, I am counting on the District committee to help increase that to 60% by December 2007.

I will be sending note cards to groups introducing myself and listing the District 13 schedule and let them know I will be sharing their meeting with them soon.

I have a tentative agenda scheduled through 06/2007.

I realize this function was poorly attended by GSR’s and I realize the Area 24 committee did not send an agenda to the DCM in order for the DCM to distribute at a District meeting. However I did make a suggestion to have an agenda for this function no later than December 1st, and make sure it is emailed to the DCM’s to forward to District Committee.

I will continue to do my best to service the District in what ever capacity I can.

Archives-Jan P

The Archives Chair had a hand out for our District chair; please submit any pertinent information to the Area 24 chair when Archive material is available.

Please utilize the pamphlet “AA Archives “How can I help?”

CD “Voices of our co-founders.”

Corrections-Rick C

Corrections is in need of correspondence for inmates, please provide forms for submitting for correspondence connections. Mt. Pleasant has approximately 100 women.

Experience through the mail.

CPC-Frank Niddy

Frank has a goal for CPC to contact organizations such as the following:

Bar Association

Ministerial

Continuing ED- University-Nursing-Counseling

There is a power point presentation lasting 15 minutes that is available for CPC use.

Frank has 2 pages of ideas to proceed with action items for CPC and is enthused about sharing those ideas with the district chairs.

GVR-Sarah Hynnek

Please remember our meeting in print; this is another way of carrying the message of AA.

The GrapeVine is fully self-supporting and currently they are running a special buy one subscription get half off another. I have an order form if interested.

Every July a GrapeVine is printed without staples for the correctional facilities. Is this something the Area 24 corrections could do? Send this copy every July to correctional facilities? $18/Year

Literature-Kevin Ambrisco

When displaying literature for functions are sure to ask yourself-“Who is the audience?”

Patients

Physicians

Professionals

Treatment

It will be important to display accordingly-Kevin will be happy to hear from the District 13 chair.

Please remember there is service material available at no charge-such as:

AA at a Glance

AA Fact Sheet

If you have questions regarding your new positions, there are guidelines for service online through GSO.

I did make a suggestion that the Area chairs submit a report so that the DCM could have the report to distribute to the appropriate District chair.

Sunday Area Committee Meeting

Corrections-Requested that every one understands the PinK Can Fund-The Can does not need to be Pink it can be a coffee can marked corrections. Just so the groups know the money is collected to purchase literature for Area 24 corrections.

Alternate DCM: Bob G

As part of my duties as your Alternate DCM and to encourage participation at the District level, I plan to attend meetings at all of the District 13’s AA groups (excluding women’s meetings, unless invited, which I would encourage our DCM or female chars to attend).

This month I attended meetings of the Melrose Group, Wild Bill’s Sat noon group, River Junction group , Riverview Group, Recovery Group, Proctor Horton Group and the First things First meeting and their group conscience meeting.

I would like to put together a packet to take to some of our district groups that have not been involved at this level recently. This packet would include District 12 schedules, past newsletter, future publication dates and a GSR information sheet.

All input on and cooperation with this endeavor will be appreciated.

CPC Committee:  Pat I.

I have very little to report. I received the box of CPC material from the past CPC chair and have looked through this material. It appears we have a good stock of pamphlets, etc.

I have many contacts to make with professionals who were previously reached by the past CPC Chair. I intend to get started.

Thanks, Pat I

Public Information Committee: Tim H.

I received materials from Kory for preparing the District 13 Meeting Schedule and plan to print the newest update in February district meeting. I am passing around a current version, so please check it and make any necessary changes. You’ll see that I changed the format a little, giving more room for names and phone numbers on the back. I also emailed the most recent version to the intergroup web mistress and it is posted online.  Yours in service, Tim H.

Literature Committee: Shaun W.

I received one order for Literature from Riverview Group of Muscatine. On hand were the BB and 12 X 12 but no the As Bill Sees It or Exp Strength and Hope. Please take down my contact info back to your groups. Shaun W 319-321-1414. I will not be at the February district meeting. In service, Shaun.

Grapevine: Beth F.

The Grapevine subscription has been renewed. We utilized the special offered through the Grapevine for the first year at full price and the 2nd year at ½ price. Yours in love and service, Beth F.

Treatment Facilities Committee: Hal S.

This month ahs been transitional. I’ve been on the phone with a couple treatment program facilities introducing myself and asking a few questions (like: If there’s anything I can do to be of assistance, please feel free to call anytime). I’ve also been on the phone with our outgoing treatment chair getting some info and so on. Rosie has really taken care of treatment this month, so thanks Rosie. My goal for the upcoming month is to send out letters to the appropriate staff at each of all possible treatment program facilities in our district. I’ll also be reflecting some on my own treatment program experiences, and what it was like to accept AA into my life this last time through rehab. Maybe some ideas will find their way into action. Much like the last couple of years, I’ll likely be making one or more simple goals to build on in 2007-2008. In any case, if anyone has any comments or ideas, please talk with me.  Yours in Love and Service  Hal S.

Corrections Facilities Committee:  Rick W.

As your newly elected officer I have recently attended the workshop 2 weeks ago in Marshalltown. Also back in mid November I attended the Area 24 Corrections workshop in  Mt Pleasant Prison (60 AA men attended). What an exciting and learning opportunity.

We started for the first time an AA meeting in the Cedar County Jail. We are going every 2nd and 4th Wednesdays and have 6 male and 4 lady volunteers.

Johnson Co Jail meetings are every other Thursday nights. We have a lot volunteers, but usually the same 4 men. Trying to work with Dean A. on getting a schedule together to help organize better.

Oakdale prison AA meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays every month. Looking for more help as its just Dale B and me.

Working on Pink Cans right now. We’ll be getting them out to as many meeting places as possible. Yours in service, Rick W.

Newsletter: No report submitted.

Activities Committee: Pat S---We have reserved Hills community Center for March 17th. Dale has reserved with 50$. See more in New Business

Intergroup Liaison: Tim H.

Intergroup will hold elections for new officers at its February meeting, Feb 3, 10:30 AM Uptown Bills Small Mall in Iowa City. Though downsized, Intergroup continues to provide phone answering service for Iowa City and the District as a whole, as well as holding several fellowship-building activities throughout the year, such as the New Years dance. Intergroup is low on funds, as the phone service is expensive so please encourage your groups to donate. Yours in service, Tim H.

Archives:  Rosie P.

Not much to report, I have contacted Norm P former Area 24 Archives chair and plan to contact Jan P current Area 24 Archives chair. Also plan to contact our former District 13 Archives for useful material. I will also order the Archives handbook from GSO. I hope to learn from those who have served in Archives before me and actively participate in Area 24 Archives activities. Yours in love and service, Rosie
